Want a simple and effective way to change your smile?

Maybe one or two of your front teeth are oddly shaped, uneven, discolored or just too wide. This can be done simply and effectively using veneers. Veneers are wafer thin shells of fired porcelain that are prepared in the dental laboratory and then bonded to your teeth using a special kind of cement.

Porcelain veneers are a form of dental treatment that cosmetic dental surgeons use to dramatically change the color and contours of a tooth. They are so versatile that they can be used in various situations from repairing a chipped tooth to a complete smile make-over. A smile make-over can cover various procedures such as: straightening crooked teeth, restoring broken teeth, filling the gaps between teeth, and treating stained and discolored teeth.

To determine the kind of smile you would look good with the dentist used equipment such as an intra oral camera and digital imaging. With digital imaging you can see your face as it is digitally changed though various styles of teeth reshaping and choose the one which suits you best.

Once that is agreed upon the dentist will prepare your teeth by taking off a thin slice of their surface, about half a millimeter, which is the thickness of the porcelain veneer. After the preparation which is painless and simple the dentist will take impressions of your teeth and send the casts to the dental laboratory. Porcelain veneers take a week or two to be made so a temporary veneer made of resin may be placed.

When they are ready the dentist will check it for fit, shape and color. To fit the veneer your tooth surface will be cleaned and polished. After that the surface enamel is etched. This process will enable the veneer to be bonded strongly to your tooth with a special light-activated cement. The light activation allows the cement to harden and acts as a strong adhesive. The veneer or the porcelain shell is thus stuck to the prepared tooth.

Veneers are a very simple way of providing cosmetic dentistry without too much of teeth removal or extensive gum surgery. The porcelain is very strong, hard, stain resistant and are tolerated very well by the gum tissues. Porcelain matches the color of natural tooth enamel and can be used very well for discolored teeth. They have a very natural look and feel and provide excellent cosmetic results.

Veneers generally are long lasting though after five to ten years they may need to be replaced.

Dental treatment with veneers can cost from 500 to 1300 dollars per tooth. Usually dental insurance do not cover this form of dental treatment.
